Interesting article on Tulare Lake in today's Visalia Times-Delta (thanks Mom, for the send <g>). I remember noticing some of the things he's talking about on Highway 41, back when I first began researching the lake a few years back. Ever noticed Westlake Farms out there? There's a reason it's called "Westlake Farms"...
On the previous edition of this blog, I posted an overlaid map of Tulare Lake, if you're interested in seeing where the old lake used to be compared with what's there now. A section of this old 1874 map was used as the overlay (the lake was huge, back in the day):

I ran across your page while researching more about Tulare Lake. You might be interested in my book The Great Western Divide which talks about Tulare Lake and growing up in the Kaweah watershed. Your picture of downtown Visalia is the way it looked when I was in high school. I will be back in the Valley this weekend to talk with people who actually working to restore the lake.

I have been researching some pioneer history circa 1856. Tulare Lake is mentioned as a reference point. I would very much like to know the source map for your map showing Tulare Lake, and I would appreciate being able to see your "overlaid map of Tulare Lake".
Thank you,
